People, its an FM TRANSMITTER
I just bought this at best buy... I was too impatient to wait to get it in the mail. So yes I paid the extra 25 buck ...oh well..I have a 2008 VW Jetta with a poop iPod dock and no aux and an iPhone 4. So without dropping $500 at Das Auto for a dock that isn't known for excellence I opted for the sub par (but better than nothing) FM transmitter route.And it works! a little fuzz when its quiet but nothing unbearable. and way cheaper that PIXAMAG or replacing the HU. it charges and i can controll my ipod like i did in my 96 jeep via the tape deckAfter reading alot of the reviews I think people are misinterpreting the tech here... ITs AN FM TRANSMITTER..!! So far so good... (Better than other reviews make it seem)
This is the first time I'm reviewing a purchase. I felt obliged to review this product because when I was trying to decide on which FM transmitter to buy, every single one had a lot of terrible reviews and it made picking one a difficult decision. The alternative was a $200+ ipod integration kit for my car and those have equally critical reviews. So I just went with my gut and bought this one.I've had it for a few days now and it seems to be working well so far. I'm using it with an iphone 4. It charges the phone and transmits audio to my car stereo. Does what it's supposed to do.Good:+ plug fits with bumper case on+ phone doesn't give that unrecognized charger message that some car chargers bring up+ you can use the transmitter as an inline remote. Good but not great
I bought this as a replacement for a Kensington FM Transmitter. I had recently bought a iPod Nano 5th Gen and my old transmitter wouldn't charge it because it was incompatible. So I went shopping for a new transmitter, and decided to find something that could run off the iPods battery as well as having the option to be plugged in for power. Which is how I ended up with this device.The device works pretty well for the most part, but the signal strength is not all too powerful. The SmartScan feature does what its supposed to find a clear station, but is not always too accurate. A couple of tries usually gets a good station. I wouldnt expect amazing signal strength from this since its power comes from the iPod whether its plugged in or not (The option to plug it in sends power to the iPod directly, and not to the FM Transmitter).There is an International Mode on this device, but accessing it is hidden. Setting the device to 87.7 or 87.9 really does help but there...

Better Than I Expected
I purchased this FM transmitter for my iPhone 3G recently, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. My car doesn't have an AUX input or a cassette deck, so I was stuck getting and FM transmitter to get my music out in my car. I knew this was the least desirable of the 3 methods, but not wanting to spend a fortune or redo the interior of the car with wiring rework, I chose the FM route. The device is a sleek, compact one that visually works well with the iPhone. It doesn't add much bulk or weight (it's really light!) to the combined device at all.This is my first FM transmitter and reading about them in general, I did not have high hopes, especially as I live in a large metropolitan area without many dead regions on the FM dial (I live in the Metro Detroit area). I used the Radio Locator website to find vacant frequencies for my home and work zip codes, and found two that were "Great" and two that were "Good". Intl Mode
This product is great if you know how to operate it in International Mode.In the USA, no radio station is allowed to transmit a signal below 88.1 FM. So, 87.9 and 87.7 are clear enough to transmit a very clean signal.To get this product in international mode, tap the "menu" button until the "preferences" screen comes up. Press the button labeled "reset," which should be the one on the far left. You should now see a screen that say "reset" over the middle button and "cancel" over the right button. When this screen appears, hold the far left button (there shouldn't be anything above that button). US should appear. Stop holding the button and press it a few times. You should see "EU" appear and "JP" appear if you keep pressing it. Select "EU" and now your itrip will allow you to transmit on 87.7 and 87.9, giving you the BEST audio clarity for ANY FM transmitter bar none!!!

International Mode on the new Itrip
The biggest issue with any FM transmitter is radio interference. I bought this Itrip after having read how they can be set to International Mode so that you can use 87.9 as a station (no US radio stations are allowed on that frequency, so hence no interference).It was hard to find how to do this on the new Itrip, so here's how:Press the big Menu button on the right until you get to PreferencesHold down the left button(reset)until you see it say US instead of reset.Press it again to cycle through the international modes (US, EU, JP). EU is what you want.Set the tuner to 87.9 on your Itrip.Set your FM radio to 87.9 and enjoy interference free music from your IPod, IPhone or IPad.

Good, but not great
I read the reviews on here and was apprehensive about buying it after all of the negative comments. I went ahead and bought it anyway though, because I didn't have any other options. And I do have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe my expectations were lowered, but it worked fine.I used it on a road trip from Chicago to St. Louis with my iPod Touch and only had to change the station 2-3 times. Which on a trip that long is pretty good. It did work better out in the-middle-of-nowhere Illinois than it did in the city, but it's definitely still usable. I only gave it 3 stars, though, because there is still static in the background. If you're listening to louder music, it's not noticeable, but if you want it to listen to smooth jazz, it's probably not the transmitter for you. I have discovered that much of the static has to do with the placement of your device in the vehicle. Mine does best sitting on my lap, which is convenient for easy song changes. Works For Me
I had a Griffin FM transmitter with my iPhone 3G that I gave away with the phone. When I purchased my iPhone 4, there didn't seem to be a supported Griffin FM transmitter or car charger that officially worked with the iPhone 4. I wanted a Griffin because the one I had worked well for me. I waited a while, kept checking, and finally there were products offered for the iPhone 4. A LOT of products (from Griffin). I wasn't sure which product to pick. I wanted a car charger and an FM transmitter. I finally picked out the DualConnect as it seemed the closest match. I was hesitant however because there seemed to be mixed reviews around, mostly negative. I went ahead and bought it and it has worked great. It worked the first try with no problems. I had been a little worried about the "dual" part... my car radio doesn't have a line in for external audio input and I figured that part of the cord would dangle about, unused. Bought a 2006 car that didn't have the plug in for I phone. With this, I can use pandora through i phone or use i pod. sometimes a little "static" on the radio station the griffin selects for use. But overall great product. Really easy to use first time out of the gate, and i am not a techno geek by any means. Great price through amazon, almost half off from griffin website.

I was a bit disappointed in the quality of this product. I had bought one for my husband a few months back and it seemed to be better made than this one. CD-quality sound if in International Mode
I first tried my itrip in standard mode and the sound reminded me of a radio station I know broadcasts from two counties away; I could clearly hear the music, but it was not the clearest sound. Then, I found specific directions regarding an old itrip version from "Eric William" in Michigan (a link to his review is at the end of mine). If you modify his directions (as I did below) for the new version, then you can easily set it to international mode and the sound quality was nearly CD quality.1. Before buying the itrip, make sure your radio can tune lower than 88.1 (87.9 will work for the directions below).2. Buy it, then set it up in your car as described in the quick start guide (pretty easy - just plug everything in)3. The iTrip works if you have an FM channel to play it over in your area
I have used many different FM transmitters in my iPod history, and this one is no different than the others: if you can't find a weak FM station in your area, it's not going to work.I originally and accidentally purchased the iPod-only version of the iTrip Auto (which oddly seemed to work with the iPhone, but I didn't want to take a chance so I got the proper version). Both of the devices worked fine on the FM transmitter functionality side of things. But all the FM transmitters I have used have worked fine (my previous model was a Kensington Pico for the iPod).The sound quality to me is no different than the Pico, and as good as any other Griffin FM transmitter I have used. In general the sound quality of any FM transmitter just isn't going to sound as good as a wired connection, so I am basing my opinion relative to the technology. Works Great - Under the right conditions
I bought this and use it with an ipod touch 2nd generation. It works great for me. I also live in a rural area and agree that the reception can be bad depending on the area you are at as I have taken it to various places in the NorthEast. However there are a couple things that other reviewers mentioned that may be an issue. There are also a couple of solutions. This device has a power on/off switch on the end of the plug. Your car may or may not power off the cig lighter each start and shut off. Check that it is turned on by either being red or yellow or green. Else with the speaker now built into the ipod you get the illusion that it is broadcasting, lots of static on the radio and yet you can hear something. Again, this may not be the case it is just something to look into if other solutions are not working. Here is a tip too. These transmitters come with US and International settings.
